Good news about Belle Isle ...

... I hope so.  My favorite place in all of Michigan and I have been very worried about it with the bankruptcy hyperbolics.

Belle Isle lease deal with the state of Michigan pumps money to improve Belle Isle.

Just for the record - we must also protect the DAC!

Detroiters take revitalization into their own hands

I liked this news segment from Friday evening's News Hour show.  Steven Henderson is probably my favorite Detroit journalist and spokesperson.

Detroiters take revitalization into their own hands

Also from the on-line New York Times today:  Sunday Dialogue:  Sell Masterpieces to Help Save a City?

I know my answer:  Save the masterpieces of the DIA for the residents of the city of Detroit and our metropolitan area and our visitors.

Cool videos with good music worth saving and watching

Set to one of my favorite pieces of music, this You Tube link is a very well done montage of 47 images of Queen Elizabeth from baby to present time done to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  The video highlights the Queen's extraordinary beauty - to me, movie star beauty.  Only three of the photos in the middle of the set are less than complimentary.  Otherwise, even as the Queen ages, she remains startlingly attractive.

This video of a surfing/skateboarding bulldog is going to make you laugh and watch it over and over again. The dog totally gets it.

Finally, a sad video with a happy ending.  We all cried and then laughed with relief when the end came.  As with the other videos, the accompanying music, Damn Cold Night by Avril Lavigne, also happens to match perfectly.  Here she is: Fiona, the Rescued Dog.

The guy flying three kites is in his 80's and he's from Canada. He comes to the Washington State International Kite Festival every year. His skin is like leather as he normally flies with his shirt off. He is deaf, so when he flies we hold our hands up and wave them for applause. He flies two with his
hands and the third kite is attached to his waist.
You must watch to the end to see the amazing landing of that last kite!  Most of would have those kites so tangled up, you could never get them separated again!  And of course, make sure the volume is turned up because the music totally reflects the soaring of the kites.  Here it is:  Ray Bethell:  The Kite Flyer.  Enjoy!
